African Divination

12/11/09 09:22

Divination in Africa is so deeply rooted that it sometimes becomes impossible to discuss about one's self and aspirations without touching on the topic of divination methods and expert-client interaction. An in-depth socioloical study of African studies indicate the need for them to use divination to answer their questions. In fact, even the judiciary system in most nations here are also rooted in divination.

Now if one wants to understand African divination, one should take into heart that divination, like science, is treated to be only one way of finding out the truth. Thus, the two are considered to be in similar planes.

A divination system has many facets. A divination system also has many purposes relevant to the practitioner's goal. They also differ in the kind of medium used. By these descriptions, we can say that Western divination also has a lot of similarity to Western ones.

Most important of these goals is the use of African divination systems in order to find out more about the present environment. I found a book especially dedicated to African divination and their utilizations in knowing. The techniques presented in the book were not meant to be used for divining the future but, rather, about finding information about the present.

In the book, we are first brought to the world of Zulu divination and specific cases of divination used to accurately descrive the present situation. The succeeding chapters, meanwhile, talk about the cultural impact of divination unto the lives of an ordinary African.

Finally, the book brings us to the possible future of African divination, a world where the modes of cognition are not normal.
